Overview

The RK ROYAL KLUDGE A72 is a wireless mechanical keyboard featuring an Alice layout, a split ergonomic design that promotes a natural typing posture and reduces wrist strain. Despite its compact 68% form factor (72 keys), it retains dedicated arrow keys, saving desk space without sacrificing functionality. It offers tri-mode connectivity (Bluetooth 5.0, 2.4GHz, USB-C) and a massive 7500mAh battery, delivering up to 550 hours of use with RGB off. The gasket mount construction and five-layer internal damping provide a soft, cushioned typing feel with minimal hollow noise, making it a strong contender in the mid-range ergonomic keyboard market.

Connectivity & Compatibility

The A72 supports three connection methods, easily switched via a toggle on the back. Bluetooth 5.0 can pair with up to three devices, ideal for switching between a PC, tablet, and smartphone. The 2.4GHz wireless mode uses a dedicated dongle for low-latency, stable connectivity, while USB-C wired mode allows simultaneous charging and use. It is compatible with Windows and macOS, and a web-based driver enables key remapping, macro programming, and RGB customization without installing software. The keyboard also works with game consoles like PS4/PS5 and Xbox via wired connection.

Product Info

Released in 2025, the RK ROYAL KLUDGE A72 is priced around ¥25,000 on online retailers. The package includes a USB-C cable, 2.4GHz receiver, keycap puller, switch puller, dust cover, and user manual. It occupies the mid-range segment, offering excellent value for an Alice-layout ergonomic keyboard. The hot-swappable PCB supports both 3-pin and 5-pin switches, allowing easy customization. The PBT Cherry-profile keycaps are durable and resistant to shine, and the pre-lubed RK linear cream switches provide smooth keystrokes out of the box.

Best Use Cases

  • Programmers and writers who type for long hours: The Alice layout reduces wrist and forearm strain, and the gasket mount provides a comfortable, cushioned feel. However, if you need a numpad, consider adding a separate keypad.
  • Gamers wanting a compact setup: The 68% size frees up mouse space, while five macro keys and a volume knob enhance in-game efficiency. Wireless performance is solid, but competitive FPS players who rely on a full function row may prefer a larger layout.
  • Keyboard enthusiasts and newcomers to customization: Hot-swappable switches and a web-based driver make it easy to experiment with different switches and keycaps without soldering. The gasket mount and multi-layer damping let you experience modern keyboard trends affordably. Note that the PCB and case are not replaceable, so full DIY freedom is limited.
