This article covers Lexar 2TB ES5 磁気ポータブルSSD 最大2000MB.

Overview

Lexar's ES5 series brings a magnetic portable SSD that sticks directly to your smartphone for effortless on-the-go storage. The 2TB model delivers read and write speeds up to 2000MB/s over USB 3.2 Gen 2x2, making it ideal for high-resolution video capture and large file transfers. It supports Apple ProRes 4K at 120fps and Samsung Pro Video 8K at 30fps, catering to mobile creators who need reliable, fast external storage.
The drive is IP65 dust and water resistant and can survive drops from up to 3 meters, so it's built for outdoor and field use. A metal ring accessory lets you attach it to non-MagSafe devices as well. The free Lexar app provides automatic backup, turning your phone's storage expansion into a set-and-forget experience.
Positioned in the mid-high tier of portable SSDs, the ES5 stands out with its magnetic attachment and rugged design, competing with Samsung T7 Shield and SanDisk Extreme Pro while offering unique MagSafe compatibility.

Compatibility Guide

  • Interface: USB-C (USB 3.2 Gen 2x2). Performance drops on systems without Gen 2x2 support (e.g., most PCs and Macs top out at 10Gbps).
  • Supported devices: iPhone 15/16 series, Android smartphones with MagSafe or metal ring, tablets, PCs, Macs.
  • Form factor: External portable SSD. Includes a short USB-C to C cable.
  • Power: Bus-powered via USB-C; no external power adapter needed.
  • Note: ProRes 4K 120fps recording requires iPhone 15 Pro or later. Samsung Pro Video 8K 30fps requires compatible Galaxy devices.

Product Info

The Lexar ES5 (model LES5XXX002T-RNWNU) launched in 2025 with a retail price around ¥65,000 for the 2TB variant. It offers sequential read and write speeds up to 2000MB/s, IP65 ingress protection, and 3-meter drop resistance. Warranty is standard (typically 3 years). It sits in the mid-high tier of portable SSDs, targeting mobile creators and professionals who need fast, durable, and magnetically attachable storage.

Best Use Cases

  • iPhone videographers: If you shoot ProRes 4K 120fps on an iPhone 15 Pro, this SSD attaches magnetically to the back of your phone for cable-free recording. Not suitable for non-Pro iPhones lacking ProRes support.
  • Android 8K shooters: Samsung Galaxy users can record 8K 30fps Pro Video directly to the ES5, streamlining post-production workflows.
  • Travelers and mobile workers: Need extra storage for your phone or tablet? The IP65 rating and drop resistance make it a reliable travel companion. The Lexar app automates backups.
  • PC/Mac users wanting fast external storage: On a USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 port, you get full 2000MB/s speeds. On standard USB 3.2 Gen 2, expect ~1000MB/s. Great for large file transfers and backups, but not for boot drives.

Things to Consider

  • To achieve the advertised 2000MB/s, your host device must support USB 3.2 Gen 2x2. Most current laptops and desktops only offer Gen 2 (10Gbps), halving the speed. Check your system's USB specs before buying.
  • Magnetic attachment works best with MagSafe iPhones; other devices need the included metal ring, which may not adhere to all cases.
  • This is an external storage drive, not suitable for installing an operating system. Use it for data, media, and backups.
  • Competitors like Samsung T7 Shield and SanDisk Extreme Pro offer similar speed and durability but lack MagSafe. The ES5 commands a slight price premium for its magnetic feature.
