This article covers WD HDD 内蔵ハードディスク 3.5インチ 2TB WD Blue WD20EZRZ-RT SATA3.0 5400rpm 2年保証.

Overview

Western Digital's WD Blue series has long been a staple for desktop internal storage. The WD20EZRZ-RT is a 3.5-inch hard drive offering 2TB of capacity, spinning at 5400rpm with a 64MB cache buffer.
This drive is designed for general desktop users who need affordable bulk storage. It is not intended for operating system boot drives or performance-sensitive applications, but it excels as a cost-effective repository for photos, videos, documents, and game libraries.
In today's market, where SSDs dominate for speed, the WD Blue 2TB occupies the entry-level to mid-range data storage segment. It remains a popular choice for users who prioritize capacity per dollar over raw transfer speeds.

Compatibility Guide

The WD20EZRZ-RT is a standard 3.5-inch SATA internal hard drive. It connects via a SATA 6Gb/s (SATA 3.0) interface, which is backward compatible with SATA 2.0 and SATA 1.5Gb/s ports found on older motherboards.

  • Form factor: 3.5-inch (desktop PC only)
  • Interface: SATA 6Gb/s (compatible with SATA 3.0, 2.0, 1.5Gb/s)
  • Power connector: Standard SATA 15-pin power connector
  • OS support: Windows, macOS, Linux, and other major operating systems
It cannot be physically installed in laptops or small-form-factor PCs that use 2.5-inch bays. If you plan to use it as a boot drive, be aware that SATA HDDs are significantly slower than NVMe SSDs for OS loading and application launches.

Product Info

The WD20EZRZ-RT is part of Western Digital's WD Blue lineup. It features 2TB of storage, a 5400rpm spindle speed, and 64MB of cache. The manufacturer provides a 2-year warranty, with an additional 1-year distributor warranty in some regions.
Market positioning is entry-level bulk storage. In an era where SSDs are the norm for performance, this HDD serves as a cost-effective secondary drive for large media archives, game installations, and backup purposes. Its strength lies in low cost per gigabyte rather than speed.

Best Use Cases

  • Media and backup storage: Ideal for photographers, videographers, or anyone with large media collections. You get 2TB of space at a fraction of the cost of an equivalent SSD.
  • Game library drive: Perfect for storing games you play less frequently. Load times will be longer than an SSD, but the capacity-to-price ratio is excellent for a large game collection.
  • File server or NAS (with caution): Its low power draw makes it suitable for 24/7 operation in a basic file server. However, for dedicated NAS environments, consider WD Red drives which have better vibration tolerance and RAID-specific firmware.
  • Not recommended for: Users who need a fast boot drive or primary application storage. Also, if absolute silence is a priority, an SSD is the better choice.

Things to Consider

With a 5400rpm spindle speed, sequential read/write performance typically hovers around 150MB/s. This is noticeably slower than 7200rpm HDDs and vastly slower than any SSD. Do not buy this drive expecting snappy OS boot times.
While the WD Blue is reliable for desktop use, it is not optimized for 24/7 operation in RAID arrays or NAS enclosures. The WD Red series offers better reliability for those scenarios.
Competitors include Seagate BarraCuda (2TB 5400rpm) and Toshiba DT01ACA series (2TB 7200rpm). The 7200rpm models offer faster transfer speeds but consume more power and cost slightly more.

FAQ

Q: Can I install my operating system on this drive?
A: Technically yes, but it is strongly discouraged. Boot times and application loading will be very slow. Use an SSD for your OS and reserve this HDD for data storage.
Q: Can I use this drive in a PS4 or PS5?
A: The PS4 uses 2.5-inch drives internally, so this 3.5-inch drive will not fit. The PS5 only supports NVMe SSDs internally. However, you can use it as an external USB drive with either console.
Q: How much actual storage space is available after formatting?
A: The formatted capacity is approximately 1.81TB. This translates to roughly 360 full-HD movies (5GB each) or about 72,000 RAW photos (25MB each).
