Overview
HELLBENT is a free-to-play action brawler that drops you into a demon-infested underworld with a simple premise: punch your way through hordes of hellish enemies and eventually bring one of the lords of hell to his knees. Developed and published by the HELLBENT Team, this early-access title is currently in active development, with the developers noting that it will remain in development for at least the next two months or so.
The game is available now on Steam, and while it's rough around the edges, it offers a raw, hands-on combat experience that's easy to pick up but hard to master.
Highlights
- Souls-like combat with a casual twist: HELLBENT blends the deliberate, punishing combat of the Souls-like genre with a more approachable, casual presentation. You'll need to read enemy patterns and time your punches carefully, but the game doesn't demand the same level of commitment as a full-fledged Souls title.
- Action roguelike elements: The Steam tags suggest an action roguelike structure, meaning each run may offer different upgrade paths or enemy configurations. However, the upgrade system is not yet implemented in the current build, so expect that feature to arrive in a later update.
- Multi-player support: The game includes multi-player functionality, so you can team up with friends to take on the demon hordes together. This adds a cooperative layer to the otherwise solo-focused brawler gameplay.
Who It's For
If you're a fan of action games that reward patience and pattern recognition, but you don't want to sink hundreds of hours into a sprawling RPG, HELLBENT might be right up your alley. It's also a great pick for players who enjoy early-access titles and want to watch a game evolve over time.
The developers are transparent about the game's current state, so if you're okay with a few bugs and missing features, you can jump in now and see the foundation being built.
