Overview

The Nexmora external Blu-ray drive brings optical media support back to modern laptops and desktops that lack a built-in drive. Its slim 1.8cm profile and 350g weight make it truly portable, while dual USB-A and USB-C interfaces ensure broad compatibility with both older and newer machines. This drive handles BD-R/RE (including DL/XL/TL/QL), DVD±R/RW, and CD-R/RW discs, and supports M-DISC for archival-quality burns. CPRM support also enables playback of recorded TV programs. For anyone who still relies on physical discs for movies, software, or backups, this is a convenient and budget-friendly solution.

Connectivity & Compatibility

Equipped with USB 3.0 (Type-A) and USB-C connectors, the drive connects to virtually any PC or Mac without extra drivers. It works out of the box with Windows 7 through 11 and macOS. The drive is bus-powered, meaning no external power adapter is required — just plug it into a USB port and you're ready to go. For users with modern ultrabooks that have only USB-C ports, the included cable makes direct connection simple. Compatibility extends to CPRM-encoded discs, so you can watch recorded TV content directly from the drive.

Product Info

This drive is available primarily through Japanese online retailers, priced around ¥7,999, positioning it as an entry-level to mid-range external Blu-ray burner. The slim, lightweight design is one of its key differentiators in this price bracket. The package includes USB-A and USB-C cables and a quick-start guide. Warranty is typically one year from the manufacturer. It strikes a solid balance between feature set and affordability, making it a strong contender for users who need occasional optical drive access without a large investment.

Best Use Cases

  • Laptop users needing Blu-ray playback: With most ultrabooks ditching optical drives, this external unit is an easy add-on for watching BD movies or installing software from disc. Its small size slips into a laptop sleeve.
  • Archival backup enthusiasts: M-DISC support ensures your important photos and documents can be written to durable media rated for centuries. The drive reads and writes standard BD-R/DVD/CD media as well.
  • Travelers and remote workers: At 350g, it's light enough to toss into a carry-on. However, if you routinely burn dozens of discs per week, a faster desktop burner might be more efficient. For the occasional user, this drive delivers excellent value.
