Overview

The JIYINGDUO 6TB Portable External HDD is a USB 3.0 storage solution designed for users who need to carry large amounts of data on the go. With a capacity of 6TB, it can handle backups of photos, videos, games, and TV recordings. The package includes a USB-C cable and a USB-A adapter, ensuring compatibility with modern laptops and older desktops alike.
This drive uses a 2.5-inch mechanical hard disk spinning at 5400 RPM. The USB 3.0 interface offers transfer speeds up to 5 Gbps, which is adequate for everyday file transfers. The enclosure combines aluminum alloy and plastic, making it compact and lightweight enough to slip into a bag.
Positioned as an entry-level to mid-range portable storage device, this HDD prioritizes capacity over speed. It is an excellent choice for users who want to store large volumes of data without spending a premium on SSDs.

Compatibility Guide

The drive supports USB 3.0 (5 Gbps) and comes with a USB-C cable plus a USB-A adapter. It works with Windows, macOS, many game consoles, and USB-enabled TVs. Since it is bus-powered, no external power supply is needed—just plug it into a USB port. However, using a USB hub may cause power issues, so direct connection to the PC is recommended.
The 2.5-inch form factor makes it portable, and the included cables cover both USB-C and USB-A devices. For TV recording, check your TV's specifications for supported file systems and maximum capacity.

Product Info

The JIYINGDUO 6TB Portable External HDD is available on online retailers at around ¥23,999. It is an entry-level product focused on providing high capacity at a low price. The warranty details are not explicitly stated, so buyers should review the seller's return policy before purchase.
Transfer speeds are typical for a 5400 RPM HDD—around 100–150 MB/s in real-world use. This is sufficient for backups and media storage but not for running applications or operating systems.

Best Use Cases

  • Budget-conscious backup users: If you need to back up multiple terabytes of photos, videos, and documents, this drive offers the lowest cost per gigabyte. It is ideal for scheduled backups where speed is not critical.
  • TV recording and console storage: Connect it to a USB-enabled TV for recording shows, or use it as external storage for PS4, PS5, or Xbox. The large capacity allows storing many games or recordings, though load times will be slower than internal SSDs.
  • Cold storage archiving: For data that is accessed infrequently—old projects, archived photos, or compliance records—this HDD provides an affordable long-term storage solution. Its mechanical nature means data remains intact even when unpowered for long periods.

Things to Consider

This is a mechanical HDD, so it is significantly slower than SSDs, especially for random reads and writes. Do not use it as a boot drive or for active projects. The 5400 RPM speed further limits performance with small files.
Reliability is a concern: JIYINGDUO is a lesser-known brand, and long-term durability data is scarce. For critical data, maintain multiple backups or combine with cloud storage. Also, the warranty is not clearly stated, so check the online retailers listing for return policies.
Compared to established brands like Seagate or Western Digital, this drive offers a lower price but potentially less reliability and support. It is best suited for users on a tight budget who understand the trade-offs.

FAQ

Q: Can I use this HDD with a Mac?
A: Yes, it works with any Mac that has a USB port. However, the drive may come formatted as NTFS for Windows. To use it on a Mac, reformat it to exFAT or APFS.
Q: Will it work for TV recording?
A: It works with USB recording-capable TVs, but check your TV's manual for capacity limits and supported file systems. The 5400 RPM speed is fine for standard recording, but some advanced features may require faster drives.
Q: How much data can 6TB actually hold?
A: Roughly 1,500 full-HD movies, 1.5 million high-resolution photos, or 1.5 million songs. Actual numbers depend on file sizes and compression.
