Overview
NULLBYTE is a puzzle game that asks you to read someone else's program and find the one-byte mistake that lets you bend it to your will. Everything happens on a single screen you can hold in your head: a tiny machine with 256 cells, four registers, and a stack, with its entire memory laid out in front of you.
You don't touch real computers—you learn how the machine actually thinks, and then make it do what was never written in its code.
Highlights
- The whole machine fits on one screen. 256 bytes, and you see every one of them—the code, the stack, your input, all live.
- Nothing is told, everything is discovered. The game doesn't lecture you; it lets you experiment and figure out the machine's logic on your own.
- A unique blend of genres. Combining typing, escape room, education, casual, puzzle, and simulation elements, NULLBYTE offers a fresh take on programming-themed puzzles.
Who It's For
If you enjoy puzzles that make you think like a programmer, or if you're curious about how computers actually work at a low level, NULLBYTE is a great fit. It's also perfect for anyone who likes escape rooms and logic challenges, but wants something that feels more technical and hands-on.
The game is designed to be approachable even if you've never written a line of code—you just need patience and a curious mind.
