Overview

Apacer's AP512GAS2280P4UPRO-1 is a 512GB M.2 2280 NVMe PCIe Gen3 x4 internal SSD that delivers sequential read speeds of up to 3500MB/s and write speeds of 2300MB/s. It comes with an integrated aluminum heatsink to manage thermal throttling during sustained workloads, making it a reliable choice for both desktop and laptop upgrades.
Built with 3D NAND flash memory, this drive supports NVMe 1.3 protocol and features advanced ECC correction and wear-leveling algorithms to extend lifespan and protect data integrity. The SLC caching technology further boosts responsiveness during burst writes.
This particular SKU is sold as a 6-pack, ideal for bulk upgrades in office environments, educational institutions, or households with multiple PCs. It sits comfortably in the entry-to-mid-range segment, offering a strong balance of speed, thermal management, and value.

Compatibility Guide

  • Interface: NVMe 1.3 via PCIe Gen3 x4. Works in any M.2 slot with PCIe Gen3 or higher (backward compatible with Gen4/Gen5 slots, but limited to Gen3 speeds).
  • Form factor: M.2 2280 (22mm x 80mm). Fits most desktop motherboards, thin laptops, and mini PCs. Check your device's manual for clearance, especially in ultra-slim notebooks where the drive may sit on the underside of the motherboard.
  • Capacity: 512GB. Sufficient for an OS, essential applications, and a handful of games. Users with large media libraries or many AAA titles should consider a 1TB or larger drive.
  • Power: Powered entirely through the M.2 slot — no extra cables required.

Product Info

Released in late 2025, the AP512GAS2280P4UPRO-1 is primarily sold through online retailers. The 6-pack is priced at approximately ¥100,800 (roughly ¥16,800 per drive), offering a notable discount over buying individual units. The drive carries a standard 3-year manufacturer warranty.
Market positioning is entry-to-mid-range. While it doesn't match the peak speeds of Gen4 or Gen5 SSDs, its integrated heatsink and reliable 3D NAND make it a sensible choice for everyday computing, office work, and light creative tasks where real-world performance differences are minimal.

Best Use Cases

  • Bulk PC upgrades: Perfect for upgrading multiple systems at once — whether it's a family's laptops, a small office fleet, or a computer lab. The 6-pack saves both money and procurement hassle.
  • Laptop SSD replacement: The aluminum heatsink helps manage heat in tight laptop chassis, though you should verify physical clearance before buying. Ideal for giving an older notebook a new lease on life.
  • Budget-conscious gamers: 3500MB/s reads are plenty fast for game loading times. If you're building a budget gaming rig and want snappy boot and load speeds without overspending, this drive fits the bill.
  • Secondary storage for creative work: Use it as a scratch disk for photo editing or light video projects. Pair it with a faster primary drive for a cost-effective two-tier storage setup.

Things to Consider

  • PCIe Gen3 limitation: If your motherboard supports Gen4 or Gen5, this drive won't utilize that extra bandwidth. Enthusiasts seeking maximum throughput should look at faster options.
  • 6-pack only: This SKU is sold exclusively as a multi-pack. If you need just one drive, check for a single-unit variant (e.g., AP512GAS2280P4PRO) or consider a different product.
  • 512GB capacity: Adequate for most users, but heavy gamers with large libraries or 4K video editors may find it restrictive. Plan your storage needs accordingly.
  • Heatsink clearance: The integrated heatsink adds a few millimeters of height. Ensure your M.2 slot has enough clearance — especially on motherboards where the slot sits near the CPU socket or under a large GPU cooler.

FAQ

Q: Can I use this SSD in a PlayStation 5?
A: No. The PS5 requires a PCIe Gen4 x4 NVMe SSD for internal expansion. This Gen3 drive does not meet the speed requirements and is not compatible.
Q: Do I need special tools to install this in a laptop?
A: Typically, a small Phillips-head screwdriver (#0 or #00) is all you need. However, laptop disassembly varies by model — always consult your device's service manual before attempting the upgrade.
Q: Is there a single-drive version available?
A: As of this writing, the 6-pack is the only configuration listed on online retailers for this specific SKU. For a single unit, look for the Apacer AP512GAS2280P4PRO or similar models from other retailers.
