Overview

The Sapphire Nitro+ X870EA PhantomLink is an external GPU docking station that uses Sapphire's proprietary PhantomLink interface. By connecting directly to a compatible motherboard via a dedicated connector, it delivers higher bandwidth than traditional Thunderbolt or OCuLink solutions, allowing you to add desktop-class graphics performance to laptops or compact PCs.

Key Features

  • Proprietary PhantomLink connector: Direct motherboard connection provides PCIe 4.0 x4 bandwidth
  • Full-size GPU support: Accommodates up to 3-slot, 300mm graphics cards
  • Built-in 850W 80 PLUS Gold PSU: Sufficient power for high-end GPUs
  • Compact vertical design: Fits neatly on your desk
  • Additional ports: USB 3.2 Gen2, Gigabit Ethernet, audio output

Compatibility Guide

The PhantomLink dock is designed exclusively for the Sapphire Nitro+ X870EA motherboard. It is not compatible with other motherboards. It supports any standard PCIe x16 graphics card, but you must check power draw and physical dimensions. The built-in 850W PSU is adequate for most GPUs, but verify your card's TDP.

Ideal Builds

  • Adding a desktop GPU to a laptop for gaming or creative work
  • Expanding a small-form-factor PC with a powerful external GPU
  • Users who already own a Sapphire Nitro+ X870EA motherboard and want maximum expansion

Upgrade Considerations

Because PhantomLink uses PCIe 4.0 x4, high-end GPUs like the RTX 5090 may experience a performance bottleneck. Mid-range cards (RTX 4070 class) are the sweet spot. The fixed 850W PSU means you cannot upgrade the power supply, so avoid GPUs requiring more than 850W.
