Overview
The Samsung 990 Pro 2TB is a flagship PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD that pushes the interface to its limits. With sequential read speeds up to 7,450 MB/s and write speeds up to 6,900 MB/s, it dramatically reduces game load times and accelerates large file transfers. It features Samsung's own V-NAND 3-bit MLC and a custom controller, ensuring both high performance and power efficiency.
Key Features
- Sequential read 7,450 MB/s, write 6,900 MB/s
- Samsung V-NAND and controller for reliable performance
- 2TB capacity suitable for modern games and creative workloads
- Random read 1,400K IOPS, write 1,550K IOPS
- 5-year warranty with 1,200 TBW endurance (2TB model)
Compatibility Guide
This drive uses the M.2 2280 form factor and requires a PCIe 4.0 x4 M.2 slot. It will work in a PCIe 3.0 slot but will be limited to around 3,500 MB/s. Check your motherboard's M.2 slot specification for PCIe 4.0 support. Due to high heat output, using the motherboard's built-in heatsink or an aftermarket M.2 heatsink is strongly recommended.
Ideal Builds
- Gaming PC primary storage: Install your OS and frequently played games for faster boot and load times.
- Creator PC: Ideal for video editing, 3D rendering, and other workflows that involve heavy read/write of large files.
- High-end PC upgrade: Pair with a PCIe 4.0-capable motherboard to get the full performance.
Upgrade Considerations
If you are using a PCIe 3.0 system, the 990 Pro's speed will be halved, so consider a more affordable PCIe 3.0 SSD instead. Also, be aware of M.2 slot bandwidth sharing: some motherboards disable SATA ports or other M.2 slots when a PCIe 4.0 drive is installed. Always check your motherboard manual. Adequate cooling is essential—ensure good case airflow and use a heatsink.
