Product Overview

The Keychron Q2 is a 65% gasket-mount mechanical keyboard that combines compactness with a premium typing experience. It retains arrow keys and a few navigation keys while saving significant desk space. The gasket-mount design absorbs vibrations, providing a soft, quiet, and consistent feel across all keys. It features a hot-swappable PCB, allowing you to change switches without soldering. The double-shot PBT keycaps ensure durability and a pleasant texture.

Key Features

  • Gasket-Mount Structure: Silicone gaskets between the plate and case absorb impact, delivering a uniform and cushioned typing feel.
  • Hot-Swappable PCB: Supports 3-pin and 5-pin MX-compatible switches. Easily swap switches to customize your typing experience.
  • 65% Compact Layout: Includes arrow keys and Page Up/Down in a ~320mm width, perfect for limited desk space.
  • CNC Aluminum Case: A solid, premium aluminum frame that adds weight and stability.
  • QMK/VIA Support: Fully programmable firmware for custom keymaps, macros, and layers.

Compatibility Guide

The Keychron Q2 connects via USB-C and works with any PC or laptop that has a USB port. No special drivers are needed; it is compatible with Windows, macOS, and Linux out of the box. Keycaps use a standard Cherry MX stem, so most aftermarket keycap sets are compatible. Switches must be MX-style (3-pin or 5-pin). Note that some laptops with low-power USB-C ports may not provide enough power, but this is rare. The keyboard does not affect internal PC compatibility.

Ideal Builds

  • Space-Saving Setups: The 65% layout frees up mouse space, ideal for small desks or gaming.
  • Typing Enthusiasts: The gasket-mount feel is soft and quiet, reducing finger fatigue during long sessions.
  • Customization Lovers: Hot-swappable switches and QMK/VIA firmware let you tailor the keyboard to your exact preferences.
  • Gamers and Creators: Compact yet functional, suitable for both gaming and productivity.

Upgrade Considerations

Upgrading the Q2 mainly involves swapping switches and keycaps. The hot-swappable PCB makes switch changes easy, but ensure switches are MX-compatible (not optical or other proprietary types). When changing keycaps, note that the right Shift key is 1.75u, and the bottom row uses a standard 6.25u spacebar. Most keycap sets include these sizes, but double-check compatibility. The keyboard itself is not upgradable in terms of PCB or case, but the overall build quality is high enough that you may not need to.
