Overview

The Elgato Cam Link 4K is a USB capture device that transforms your DSLR or mirrorless camera into a high-quality webcam. Simply connect your camera via HDMI, and you can capture 4K30fps video directly to your PC. It's an excellent solution for remote meetings, live streaming, and content creation where image quality matters.

Key Features

  • 4K30fps Capture — Supports up to 4K (3840×2160) at 30fps, as well as 1080p60fps for smooth streaming.
  • Plug and Play — No driver installation required. Just connect your camera via HDMI and plug the Cam Link into a USB 3.0 port.
  • Ultra-Low Latency — Approximately 60ms delay, making it suitable for real-time monitoring and live production.
  • Compact Design — Small enough to fit in your pocket, ideal for mobile setups.
  • Broad Compatibility — Works with Windows 10/11 and macOS (Intel & Apple Silicon). Compatible with OBS Studio, Zoom, Teams, and many other applications.

Compatibility Guide

  • Camera Support — Works with most cameras that have HDMI output (DSLR, mirrorless, camcorders). Some cameras may overlay menu information on HDMI output; check if your camera supports clean HDMI output.
  • PC Requirements — Requires a USB 3.0 (USB 3.1 Gen1) port. USB 2.0 will not support 4K capture. For 4K processing, an Intel Core i5 7th-gen or equivalent AMD processor is recommended.
  • Software — Use with Elgato's 4K Capture Utility, OBS Studio, Streamlabs Desktop, or any DirectShow-compatible software. Note that the older Elgato Game Capture software is not supported.

Ideal Use Cases

  • Remote Work & Video Conferencing — Present yourself with professional-grade video quality on Zoom, Teams, or Google Meet.
  • Live Streaming — Perfect for streamers who want to show themselves with a crisp, clean camera feed.
  • Content Creation — Record high-quality video for tutorials, reviews, or vlogs using your favorite camera.

Upgrade Considerations

  • USB Bandwidth — Ensure you use a dedicated USB 3.0 port. Avoid sharing the same USB controller with high-bandwidth devices like external SSDs to prevent dropouts.
  • Camera Settings — Configure your camera's HDMI output resolution correctly. Enable clean HDMI output if available to avoid on-screen overlays.
  • Future-Proofing — If you need 4K60fps capture, consider the Elgato 4K X or AVerMedia Live Gamer 4K. The Cam Link 4K is limited to 4K30fps.
