It offers four ports in total: two USB-A and two USB-C, all running at SuperSpeed 10Gbps (USB 3.1/3.2 Gen 2). The hub is bus-powered, meaning it draws power directly from your host device—no extra power adapter required. Its aluminum enclosure provides excellent heat dissipation and a premium feel, while the built-in 25cm cable keeps desk clutter to a minimum. Plug-and-play compatibility across Windows, macOS, and Linux means you can start using it immediately without installing any drivers. The hub also supports Power Delivery pass-through (up to 15W shared among downstream ports), so you can keep charging your laptop while connecting peripherals. ## Connectivity & Compatibility Host interface: USB Type-C (attached 25cm cable) Supported OS: Windows, macOS, Linux – no driver needed Backward compatibility: works with USB 3.0/2.0/1.1 devices Power: bus-powered from the host; recommended host USB-C port delivers at least 5V/900mA Power Delivery: supports PD pass-through (max 15W shared across all downstream ports) Compatible with: laptops, tablets, desktops with a USB-C port ## Product Info StarTech. com has been a trusted name in IT peripherals since 1985, and the HB31C2A2CB sits comfortably in the entry-to-midrange segment for mobile users. It comes with a 2-year manufacturer warranty and free lifetime technical support. In the box you get the hub itself; no additional cables or adapters are included. With its all-aluminum build and 10Gbps speed, this hub is a solid choice for users who want a reliable, portable port expansion without breaking the bank. ## Best Use Cases For laptop users running out of ports: If your laptop has only one or two USB-C/Thunderbolt ports, this hub instantly adds two USB-A and an extra USB-C, letting you connect a mouse, keyboard, thumb drive, and an external SSD simultaneously. The 10Gbps speed ensures fast file transfers. Frequent travelers and remote workers: Its small footprint (approx. 80×50×12 mm) and bus-powered design make it a perfect travel companion. No wall wart needed, and the short cable keeps your bag tidy. MacBook Air/Pro users: MacBooks that rely solely on USB-C benefit greatly from this hub, as it restores native USB-A connectivity for older peripherals like printers, scanners, and flash drives. It's also a great match for Chromebooks and Windows ultrabooks. When to look elsewhere: If you regularly need to charge your laptop at full speed while transferring data to multiple high-power devices (e. g. , large external SSDs), a self-powered hub with higher PD wattage might serve you better. Also consider competitors like Anker PowerExpand (more ports but slightly higher price) or Belkin (often includes video output). ## Things to Consider Bus-powered hubs have inherent power limits. The HB31C2A2CB shares 15W among all downstream ports, so connecting two bus-powered external SSDs simultaneously may cause instability. If your workflow demands heavy multi-device usage, investing in a self-powered hub with an external power supply is recommended. Also, note that while the hub supports PD pass-through, it doesn't include a PD charger—you need to supply your own USB-C charger (and the hub will pass power through to the laptop). The actual PD speed depends on the charger's capability. Compared to cheaper 5Gbps hubs, this model's 10Gbps makes a real difference with fast storage devices. For everyday peripherals (mouse, keyboard), the speed difference is negligible, but for copying large media files, it's well worth the premium. ### Product Disclosure (Amazon) - Manufacturer: StarTech.com(スターテック) - Seller: Startech Japan KK - Fulfilled by: Amazon - ASIN: B08411WQGG - Note: This article covers a manufacturer-made product based on Amazon listing details.
