## Overview
The Audio-Technica ATH-M20xSTS (E) is a wired headset that combines the acoustic design of the studio monitor headphone ATH-M20x with microphone technology from the AT20 series. It features 40mm drivers that deliver a balanced sound across the frequency range. Weighing approximately 230g, it is lightweight and comfortable for long streaming or gaming sessions, thanks to breathable mesh ear pads.
This headset supports a wide range of devices, including PCs, Macs, Nintendo Switch, PS5, and PS4. It connects via a 3.5mm 4-pole plug and comes with USB Type-A and Type-C conversion adapters. It is positioned as an entry-level solution for streamers, content creators, and podcasters who need clear voice communication.
The cardioid condenser microphone uses plug-in power, so it works simply by connecting to a device. The detachable cable design also makes maintenance easier over time.

## Compatibility Guide
The headset offers two connection paths: a 3.5mm 4-pole plug and USB Type-A / Type-C adapters. It works with PCs (Windows and Mac), as well as PS5 and PS4 controllers. Nintendo Switch users can connect in both handheld and docked modes.
Using the USB adapter, you can also connect to laptops or tablets that only have USB ports. However, some mobile devices may use different 4-pole plug standards, so check compatibility before use.
The detachable cable means you can replace it if it gets damaged, which is a practical advantage for long-term use.

## Product Info
The ATH-M20xSTS (E) was released on August 28, 2026, and is sold as an official domestic product in Japan. It sits in the entry-level tier, aiming to offer studio monitor sound quality and clear microphone performance at an accessible price.
Key specifications include a 40mm driver diameter and a weight of approximately 230g. The dimensions are roughly 120 x 207 x 170 mm.
The microphone is a cardioid condenser type that operates on plug-in power, so no extra drivers or power sources are needed. It delivers clear voice pickup for streaming and calls.

## Best Use Cases
- Aspiring streamers and game commentators: the lightweight build and clear mic make long sessions comfortable and your voice easy to understand. Not for those who want wireless freedom.
- Podcasters and remote workers: the flat, monitor-style sound lets you accurately check voice and music. Not ideal if you need active noise cancellation.
- Multi-device users: the 3.5mm plug and USB adapters let you switch between PC, consoles, and mobile devices. Not for people who require Bluetooth connectivity.

## Things to Consider
This is a wired headset, so you'll need to manage the cable, unlike wireless models. The cardioid mic focuses on sound from the front but doesn't completely block out background noise.
If you prioritize immersive gaming audio, you might find the soundstage narrower compared to virtual surround headsets. However, the accurate monitor characteristics are useful for music production or editing tasks.
At around 230g, it's light, but those who wear glasses or have larger heads may feel pressure during extended use. Trying it on before purchase is recommended.
## FAQ
Q: Can I use this with PS5?
A: Yes, you can connect the 3.5mm 4-pole plug directly to the PS5 controller. Alternatively, use the USB adapter to connect to the console's USB port.
Q: Does it work with smartphones?
A: It works with smartphones that have a 3.5mm 4-pole jack. However, some models may not support the microphone, so check your device's compatibility first.
Q: How is the microphone quality?
A: The cardioid condenser mic provides clear pickup and natural voice reproduction, suitable for streaming and calls.
